Stolen goods

The coins below were stolen from the Collectors Centre, just outside Eastbourne Railway Station early in the morning of 1 November. The thieves broke into a very secure building and targeted the coins. The collection was housed in 5 Lindner trays (red base) and the value is around £8,000. The collection consisted predominately of high quality British silver from 1816 to 1936.

Key items included a choice collection of sixpences including a number of pre 1887 dates, a good selection of Edward VII and George V.

Inusual items include an 1839 proof groat, a choice 1819 halfcrown, proof odds of 1950 such as a 3d, an 1897 large silver medallion boxed, a few cartwheel 2d's.

A distinguishing feature is may of the prices were written on the plain side of old Christmas cards so there is a 'festive' design on the reverse.

A nice collection of halfcrowns from 1920 to 1936 including 1925, 1930, 1932 and 1934 in mint or near so.

A collection of nice half pennies mainly UNC including Edward VII and Victoria.

A few choice shillings including George IV and William IV (nicely toned).
